Alaska Girls Quilt Pattern by Maggie Lampton of Ketchikan Alaska. Quilt finishes at 42" x 57". Sun bonnet Sue dresses up Alaska style.
Alaska Girl (sunbonnet sue) series is designed to celebrate Alaska's historical cultural fashions. Included are six Alaska Girl blocks: Southeast Regalia, Eskimo, Kuspuk, Norwegian, Russian, and Rain Country girl. Also included is the original wallhanging setting, and a bonus twin quilt setting.
Alaska has a rich diverse cultural history. Originally populated by the Native Alaskans from the Tlingit to the Eskimo, Alaska has seen an influx of different peoples due to fur trading, fishing, logging and mining. For instance, there is a large contingent of people of Norwegian decent in St. Petersburg and a large community of Russian decent in Sitka. Each society is fiercely proud of their history, culture and traditions. Each has special attire that uniquely identifies and celebrates their culture, from the Native Alaskans with their beautiful regalia proudly displaying their clan affiliations to the Europeans and their highly embroidered and colorful costumes.
